Who doesn’t love whiskey…this guy does for sure! As much as I enjoy the Canadian Old Fashioned, I still love to change it up from time to time. I love trying new cocktail combinations. In the spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day coming up, I wanted to bring a couple of Irish whiskey cocktails to our blog. Check out the Irish Mule for a twist on the classic Moscow Mule. For this recipe, I’m bringing you an Irish version of the Whiskey Smash. To be honest, I haven’t made a typical whiskey smash yet (they’re usually made with Bourbon), but I wanted to make this with Jameson nonetheless. So here goes the Irish Whiskey Smash.
Although it isn’t my favorite whiskey, Jameson is probably top 5. Usually my go-to for Irish whiskey, so I’m going to use it here. This cocktail brings together the Irish whiskey with the lemon flavor, mint, and sweetness from the simple syrup to make a great drink that will be enjoyed in our house long after Saint Patrick’s Day.
Start by adding your ¼ of a lemon (I cut mine into two pieces), mint, and simple syrup to the bottom of your rocks glass and muddle. I have seen versions of this drink that
Once you have your muddle mixture, fill the glass with ice. Top this with your whiskey. Give it a good stir. I like to stir until a decent amount of condensation has built-up on the outside of the glass. One thing I found that I preferred while making this was to spoon the mint and lemon to the top of the glass. It wasn’t just to make the photos look better…I just prefer that Garnish at the top of the glass.
Now that your Irish Whiskey Smash is assembled, it’s ready to be enjoyed. Let me know what you think down in the comments. What’s your favorite Whiskey cocktail?
