Back in November, in the spirit of fall, I shared a recipe for an Apple Cider Moscow Mule. Now in the spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day I wanted to share two cocktails featuring some Irish whiskey. Here I’ll cover a twist on the Moscow Mule, the Irish Mule. If mules or ginger beer aren’t your thing, then check out the Irish Whiskey Smash. If you love mules or whiskey like I do then you should enjoy this Irish Mule.

As I mentioned in my post on the Irish Whiskey Smash, my go-to Irish whiskey is Jameson. It’s easy to find, doesn’t break the bank, and makes for great cocktails. The other key ingredient to this drink is the Ginger Beer. We really like Cock’n Bull Ginger Beer (purchase it here). My first experience with Ginger Beer I made the mistake of buying the first brand I saw and didn’t really pay attention to what I was getting. I ended up buying diet Ginger Beer, which wasn’t terrible, but it really took something away from the drink.

To make this cocktail, start with your copper mug and fill it with ice. Add your two ounces of Irish whiskey. Top that with one ounce of lime juice. I like to give this a little stir before topping the rest of the drink off with Ginger Beer. Depending on how much ice you use this ends up being about four to six ounces of Ginger Beer.

The typical Garnish for the Moscow Mule is a lime wedge. I added to that for the Irish Mule with a sprig of mint. I really like the flavor of whiskey and mint and it helped that I had it lying around from the Irish Whiskey Smash I had just made the night before. I’m thinking one of my next cocktails might have to be the Mint Julep. Especially since the Kentucky Derby is right around the corner and what better way to get into the spirit than a classic Mint Julep.
